Alignment isn’t just for yoga.

Thanks for coming back for my final week of the Style I.R.L. Guide! We have been defining your personal brand, and using that knowledge to take steps to improve your life. Follow these easy steps to purge your wardrobe of things that do not align with your personal brand.

Step 1:

Take a look at the inspiration board you created in week 1 of the Style IRL Guide. Remind yourself of what your personal brand is and what it looks like to you, and the words you used to describe it.

Step 2:

Keeping your personal style words in your mind, go through your closet and pull out any pieces that DO NOT align with that style. Example: If your personal brand is classic & professional with a modern edge, then you might want to pull out those bohemian, paisley, long & flowy skirt and peasant blouse.

Step 3:

Once you’ve pulled everything out that you don’t think is in line with your determined personal brand, take a look at each piece again and make a decision whether you want to purge it or keep it. If it doesn’t really fit into your personal style but it’s something you just LOVE and brings you so much joy, KEEP IT! There are no hard fast rules and we are doing this work to create HAPPINESS IN YOUR CLOSET. But most likely if you’ve pulled out a piece because it’s not in alignment with your style, my bet is it isn’t a favorite and makes you feel not-so-great when you wear it anyway. Go through your entire wardrobe including shoes and accessories.

Don’t feel overwhelmed! Break it down into mini-sessions so give yourself 20 minutes whenever you can. You’ll get through it eventually and when you do it will make getting dressed every day easier and more enjoyable.

Steps 1, 2 & 3 are part of a service I call the Closet Cleanse and I go though all of that and more with my client. But it’s easy to do on your own if you dedicate the time and follow the instructions I lay out in another post. CLICK HERE TO GET STARTED.

Thanks for working with me all month long with my Style IRL Guide. We accomplished so much together. In the next few weeks, I challenge you to be diligent about your weekly outfit planning- make it a habit that you do every week and you will continue to grow your Virtual Personal Look Book. Choose outfits that bring you joy and make you feel great. That’s what it’s all about! Keep in touch with me on Facebook- I want to know how you benefited from this challenge.

Don’t miss my latest Facebook video where I explain the difference between physical and mental clutter- it’s real and it can bring you unhappiness!
